Melbourne Edge: Kangan Institute Fashion Graduate Event 2016
I was lost for words during the annual Kangan TAFE fashion student runway, featuring first-year students to graduates. Fashion is an expression of art, and that evening there were no boundaries as each student expressed themselves through their designs.
It was a first having the runway right on campus in Richmond, and every Kangan campus from Millinery to Hospitality and Beauty and Visual Merchandising came together in celebrating our wonderful talent.
Their technique, designs and style flaunted the runway, as the talented budding designers showcased their hard work on Wednesday night.
From hand drawn graphics, to every little stitch, their masterpieces shined with integrity, ambition and passion as each model took their steps on the runway.
The students really showed off their design skills, their pieces all well thought out and their education and understanding of design just excelled, it's not only that, but it's for their teachers who have taught essentials skills.
The runway also showcased the collaboration with Australian girl band Stonefield, the 70's inspired up-cycled collection. An achievement for Kangan, having been a very successful collaboration with Australian Red Cross.
TOP THREE FASHION MOMENTS
Jessica Lawrence collection
" Scent of a woman" stole the show, with her superb collection, it was fearless and strong. With the combination of mixing different fabrics such as faux fur, animal print, fringing and sequins. Having also recently won the High Street Fashion Award for New and Emerging Designers at the 2016 Fashion Awards Australia, she is one to watch in the coming years.
Yisha Wang's Collection
designs of quirky prints gave us those Harajuku feels, taking us all the way to Tokyo, Shibuya, with girly feminine silhouettes and a strawberry backpack, that was almost as good enough to eat!
Harry Millward's menswear collection
was strong, bold and had an interesting dynamic with textures and prints, expressing his creativity through fashion.
It was an incredible and magical moment for all and everyone, congratulations Students, you should be all so proud of your achievements, and keep living your dreams.
