Christian Paul Watches
Last night the fashionistas gathered to Myer Melbourne for the launch of a Sydney label - Christian Paul watches that are being stocked in Myer. Also welcoming the new Ambassador of the brand SydneySider fashionista Kate Waterhouse.
Timothy is the creator behind the watch company, It all started at a young age, his love for watches as he would admire his father's watch collection. Years later one late night he was staring at his marble clock on the wall that his wife had purchased, from there he turned his idea into reality creating his first watch. Coming from a buying background in home wares, he felt he was ready to create a company of his own.
Being a heartfelt family man, Timothy naturally named his watch after his second son, along with the attention to detail on the watch having the C slightly tipped at 11.25, which was his second son’s time of birth.
Starting with only four watches and now after only six months a with great success has a range of 22 watches now being stocked in fashion store giant Myer.
I had actually interviewed Tim awhile back, and here are some of the questions he had answered when the company was around only 3 weeks. Today he has built an empire within 6 months in the fashion game, which is a great achievement to which he eventually wants to pass onto his sons.
What inspired you to become a designer?
Having been within the industry of home wears as a buyer and manufacturing. I had always wanted to create my own brand, it was all about the right timing and having an idea. I had gained the long-term experience needed to go forth with my idea.
How did you come up with your idea for the watches?
My wife had actually purchased a marble wall clock, and one night I was staring at it, and the idea for creating marble watches came to me. I loved the minimalistic look about it, and wanted one on my wrist. I knew it at that moment I was ready to create my own company.
And the name? Christian Paul?
Christian Paul is my seconds son's name who was named after my father Christian and my wife's grandfather Paul
My logo the C is actually tilted in the angle of 11 and 25 past, the same time my son was born.
I actually want them to inherit the brand; I made this brand not only for my family but also for my sons.
What was the process of creating your original marble watch?
Firstly a lot of trial and error! I first created the watch with actual marble, but of course due to durability it would break during production inside the watch. I then went forth trying different productions, until we found the correct one of a print of the marble, but still looking like the real thing.
It was also creating a lot of prototypes, still seeing the marble detail by far on the watch, and along with having the correct type font inside the watch.
What do you think the key of success with your brand is?
Listening to my audience. Seeing what they love and listening to feedback.
Advice to all students and people who aspire to get into the design industry?
Just go for it, pretty straight forward. You've got to sit down and make a decision and based on that decision would be the actions from the actions to the result.
